Position Statement of Pactrol Controls Ltd Concerning the RoHS Directive ( 2002/95/EC) February 2006 Pactrol Controls Ltd (a White-Rodgers Company,) a supplier of electronic boiler controls and automotive products, is aware of developments in European Union legislation regarding the harmonization of member states' legislation with regard to the restrictions on the use of certain hazardous substances ("RoHS Directive" ) 2002/95/EC. Under the RoHS Directive , Pactrol Controls is aware that after 1st July 2006 it will no longer be possible to place on the market in the EU certain electrical and electronic equipment, containing lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, poly-brominated biphenyls (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers. Pactrol controls set up internal working groups to assess the application of this Directive to its business and products and to devise mechanisms to ensure that at all times Pactrol Controls and the products which it sells comply with their provisions. The following is an update on the status of RoHS at Pactrol Controls : Pactrol Controls have received advice from organisations such as DTi, NWML and their own corporate legal dept that their Gas products Do Not fall under the scope of the RoHS directive and are therefore exempt from this legislation Four reasons for exemption have been identified Our controls are used only as “Support and Control” devices and are therefore outside the scope of the RoHS Directive. Gas appliances are part of a “fixed installation” so therefore exempt, The “Primary” energy source of appliances is gas and is therefore outside the scope of the RoHS. Component parts (electronic controllers and sub-assemblies) used in products outside the scope of the RoHS Directive are exempt Further information regarding this conclusion can be found at RoHS Decision Tree at NWML and Europa - Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Please note that Pactrol Controls now has full process and production capability to produce Pb Free/RoHS compliant products in line with any future changes to legislation or to satisfy customer requirements. Also, please be aware that most electronic component manufacturers have already or are in the process of changing components to Lead – Free /RoHS compliant parts – Pactrol Controls have no influence over this process and will be obliged to purchase Pb Free/RoHS Compliant parts.
